Founded more than 60 years ago, the Purple Heart Foundation operates with the sole purpose of supporting recipients of the Purple Heart medal, as well as other veterans who were injured while serving in the armed forces. As part of that, the foundation provides a number of programs and services aimed at assisting veterans as they return to everyday life. As part of that goal, the organization aims to connect veterans with academic scholarships to give them more opportunities in the job market.
Why Do Veterans Need Scholarships?
For veterans returning to civilian life after serving, the next step in their career presents a challenge. An obstacle many run into is the fact that several sustainable jobs require candidates who possess a certain level of higher education. In order to help these individuals along on their journey, the Purple Heart Foundation offers assistance in attaining academic scholarships and supplements the benefits of the G.I. Bill, which occasionally fails to cover all education-related expenses.
Who Is Eligible for Scholarships?
Purple Heart recipients, as well as their families, may pursue scholarships offered through the Purple Heart Foundation. Scholarships help cover additional expenses aside from those directly related to education, including room and board, book fees, and other fees that may come up during the course of an educational journey.
How Are Scholarships Awarded?
Eligible individuals must apply for the scholarship starting in February 2022. Applicants must submit the necessary paperwork before April 15 of the same year. Those awarded the scholarship will be notified by June 3.
Those looking to support Purple Heart recipients and their families in their pursuit of higher education may donate directly to the scholarship fund.
