Since 1860, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has sought to support young people, offering them a safe place to grow and learn so that they can reach their full potential. The organization reaches this goal thanks to reliable professionals and volunteers who work with the young people attending their community Clubs. To recognize those individuals for their hard work in lifting up young men and women, the organization teamed up with Maytag to offer the Maytag Dependable Leader Award.
Why Maytag?
As a brand, Maytag takes pride in offering dependable and durable products to consumers. The company produces large appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, and other home devices. Founded in 1893, the company has since earned a reputation for supplying reliable and long-lasting products.
Honoring Dependable Leaders
Valuing reliability and dependability, Maytag honors these qualities in the individuals who lend their time to the BGCA. To that end, the two organizations collaborate each year on the Maytag Dependable Leader Award, given to a selection of individuals who’ve proven how dedicated they are to supporting both young people and their communities. These are people who’ve acted as role models to Club members. Each honoree receives a grant worth $20,000 to go toward a program at their local Club.
Recent Honorees
In 2021 the Maytag Dependable Leader Awards recognized seven individuals. Honorees included a Club alum in Napa, California, as well as the first female executive director in her Club’s history. Other honorees were located in Greeley, Colorado; Boston, Massachusetts; Shreveport, Louisiana; Vancouver, Washington; and Holland, Michigan.
